Come to the meeting!

Come on down to the Community Meeting this coming Tuesday, June 28!

Bastrop residents are just hearing about a permit application to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality by Denali Water Solutions to dump sludge from the city of Austin’s Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant on 2,000 acres of land in Cedar Creek between Highways 20 and 21 and FM 535. Most of this will be in the floodplain and abuts Cedar Creek itself.

We have called a community meeting to provide information about this on Tuesday, June 28th from 6:30 to 8 pm at the VFW Hall at 1503 FM 20, Rockne, Texas.

Rep. John Cyrier and Senator Kirk Watson have sent a letter to the TCEQ asking for a formal meeting for citizens to ask questions about this permit. TCEQ will call a meeting in the next few months.

The meeting this coming Tuesday is to inform citizens with what we know now and to ensure area residents are well informed and can take immediate action.

We urge residents to send a message to TCEQ today – requesting a public meeting, just as Cyrier and Watson have done – and to show up at next week’s community meeting for lots more information. Go here to post your request for a public meeting with the TCEQ: and use this permit number: WQ0005197000.

Please note that Denali pulled out of Fayette County last week when residents let them know they did not want sludge in the Colorado Flood Plain. This is why it’s important that the TCEQ receive your comments.
